Focus on the Essentials

Do not Worry
Read: Matthew 6 : 24 - 34
"Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?"
"Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?"
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."

Focus on the Essentials
No matter how many times we are told, we worry most of the time. But if we are careful and read God's word everyday, understand His message and apply it to our lives. God have always been clear with His message. He is faithful, He will provide and He will never forsake us. So why worry?

God wants us to focus on things that matters and not on things that will not provide greater value with our lives. Where do we place our faith, our life and our security? The way we live our lives tells us whom do we serve and where our trust lies.

Today let me share with you why we should place our trust not on our ability to earn and to live but on God who has always been and will always be faithful, consistent and true to His words.

God knows our needs
Worry is a mark of little faith to God. In fact these are the very thoughts that dominates  of those who does not completely believe and trust God. If we trust Him, we know that even before we asks Him of anything He already knows what we need (v.32).

He does not want us to focus on things that has little value in our lives. He does not want us to lose sight on things that we should be spending most of our thoughts with. What our lives, our hearts and our minds should be dominated with. Rather He wants us to focus first on our reason for living, why He have created us and then He will provide all these things that we need in our lives.

God wants us to seek His kingdom first
Seeking God's kingdom is knowing what our role is in His coming great kingdom. We are all part of one big family, in fact we are likened to being a part of one big body. He is coming to reign, rule and judge in this earth. We have a reason why we are given a chance to live the life we have right now.

We may be a business man, a teacher or an engineer, wherever we may be right now, we must seek God's will and our part in His advancing Kingdom. Our reason for living is to tell people of the good news. That the salvation is at hand, that there are hope and joy in trusting Jesus and that peace and comfort is given to those who believe and trust in Him.

God wants us to live righteously
Our basic mandate in sharing the good news is to live righteously. Since we are surrounded by so many a cloud of witnesses, how we live is being judge alongside with what we believe in. Therefore we must live a life of worship, a life of offering to God and a life of sacrificing for God.

We don’t' need to stand in a pulpit to proclaim the good news. We start with our life's testimony. If only we live righteously, we can draw people to us and point them to God. Because it is only by His grace that we can do the things we do today.

God will provide our needs
When we have set our sights and priorities in life right and alongside God's original plan for us, God has promised us that we no longer have to worry with out everyday life's needs. In fact he even told us that He will provide everything that we will ever need. But first we must seek His kingdom first.

God has told us, that if the birds are fed, the plants are watered how much more will He provide for us His chosen creation? Instead God told us to focus on our life instead of the things we have to eat or drink, and on our body instead on what we have to wear. For we can't add a single moment  in our life by worrying on these things.

Focus on the Essentials
PERSONAL APPLICATION
We don't have to worry. Lets focus on our day to day matters with God's purpose in mind. Then allow God to work in our lives by supplying our needs. Here are some practical suggestions on how we can focus and not worry.
  1. Know how you can serve God today - everyday is an opportunity to share God's word. Our reason of existence is to live our daily lives with God in mind. Knowing that the way we live our life can be a powerful testimony and great opportunity to tell people of God's good news. This is our service to Him.
  2. Know how you can live righteously - The bible is full of practical suggestions on how we can live our lives righteously. But Jesus sum it up best in two great suggestions; love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as you love yourself. This two will guide us how to live a righteous life.
  3. Know that God will provide - He will never leave us nor forsake us, he will provide us our needs in daily rations. He is faithful and just, and will rewards us accordingly. So trust and believe in His promise.
